Letter to the Garden - July 2024

Dear Garden

Well here I am again writing you a quick letter.  I have just read a book that is based largely around someone's mum's letters and it was a great read.  It made me want to write more letters, some to actual real people.  I think this might have to be a thing.  I am thinking letters rather than emails, but in reality if it becomes even an email I will be doing well.  T'was ever thus.

The year keeps moving on, the season keeps turning.  Cycalmen hederafolium always starts flowering at this time of the year and I was delighted to see more than previously this year.  They are starting to seed around.  If they seed as well as the Cyclamen coum are doing then there will be joyous sights in years to come.  If someone doesn't build a house/s on you when I leave, which they most likely will.  No, no, no dear garden, I am not actively considering moving at the moment.  It is there on the edge of mind, giving me a nudge every now and again; but no this is not a serious thought.  In fact in the next few weeks I am having someone come in to do work on the front garden.  Things are going to happen (as she keeps saying mysteriously.....)

I am looking forward to some change, I love the consistency of you my garden and I love the changes through the seasons and the big dramatic changes when something new appears or something old removed.  A garden is about change isn't it?  My gardening is not static, that is not what I enjoy.  Whilst in my own life I do sometimes fear change, I know to embrace it and run with it as it will take me to where I need to be rather than where I think I want to be as the sign says more eloquently.
I live by this quote, I have to remind myself of it at times, but I know it is true. I know that 2024 really needs a sign of its own: I am not sure what it will say yet, but it will become clear I am sure.

When I last wrote to you I wondered about the amount of rain we have had and whether summer had got its sandals on yet.  Well I think it has now, but probably is wearing socks with them - always an iconic style move.....

So here we are, on the cusp of whatever happens next.  I shall boldy step over the cusp and go on to whatever will be - because it will be.

Yours loving Gardener xx

Take care and be kind.
